March 26: Women’s History Month πŸ—“

Did you know that it took 245 years to get from the Declaration of Independence to the first female and female of color Vice President of the US? 1848 marks the first Woman’s Convention in Seneca Halls, NY where the Declaration of Sentiments, declaring that ” all men and women are created equal; that they are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights: that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness”. The Declaration also listed inequalities that would only start being corrected a century later: women’s right to vote, to have access to college education and prestigious fields such as law and medicine, equal wages for equal work, fairer estate and divorce laws. No battle for good remains won forever and we are on the brink of losing some of these rights as we speak. Yet, there is solidarity between the oppressed and we all work together, surely the better angels of our nature are bound to prevail?

Three speakers shared their stories, insights and research today:

Katie, presented her ice breaker titled ” Often times people ask me”, the story of the adventures of an army brat and the various paths travelled in life and professionally.

Weihu presented ” Women @ Tech” or how a party sushi tray in a meeting room led him to be part of a women in tech support group. Hearing their perspective led him to get an insight on the conditions the minority of women working in tech face and take corrective action.

Isabella presented ” Long term versus short term rental?” : a compelling analysis of options faced by landlords.

Adventures growing up in various corners of the world, curiosity and insatiable desire to learn, a love of sushi leads opens a man’s ears to the

#herstories( word of the day, courtesy of Bill, our grammarian) working in the same company and the realization that, like Ginger Rogers, these women were doing the same as men but in heels, research about how to best market an investment property: we played and learned together. Again!
